Production Issues Surround Apple’s First Foldable iPhone
According to analyst Jeff Pu’s report, Apple has lowered its 2026 production and shipment forecast for the iPhone Duo from 7 million units to 6 million units.

Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, is reportedly set to be produced in limited quantities as its launch approaches. According to analyst Jeff Pu’s report, Apple has reduced its 2026 production and shipment forecast for the iPhone Duo from 7 million units to 6 million. The main reason is reportedly difficulties in producing the hinges used in the foldable mechanism.
Apple has announced that pre-orders for the new foldable model will begin on October 16, with the first deliveries scheduled for October 23. Since producing the foldable display and hinge mechanism is more complex than for conventional smartphones, assembling the device also requires more time.
Limited production capacity could affect iPhone Duo sales. By comparison, Apple is expected to supply around 72 million iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max units by the end of 2026, roughly 12 times the 6 million units planned for the iPhone Duo. Priced at $1,999, the iPhone Duo is also one of Apple’s most expensive new models. Its high price and limited production are expected to make the device initially accessible to a narrower audience.
