US economy grows 2.2% in second quarter

The US economy grew by 2.2% in the second quarter of 2026.

According to the third estimate released by the US Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) on Wednesday, economic growth was revised upward from the previous estimate of 1.5%.

The BEA said in its report that consumer spending, investment and exports contributed to the increase in real gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter.

The report noted that an increase in imports had a negative impact on GDP calculations.

The GDP price index increased by 5.6% in the second quarter, below the previous estimate of 5.8%.

The price index for personal consumption expenditures (PCE) increased by 5%.

The core PCE price index, excluding food and energy prices, increased by 3.3%. This represents a 0.3 percentage-point decrease compared with the previous estimate.
