Apple Prepares for Legal Battle Against OpenAI

Apple and OpenAI Trade Secrets Misappropriation Trial Set to Begin on July 19, 2027

The trial over allegations of trade secret misappropriation between Apple and OpenAI is scheduled to begin on July 19, 2027. Judge Edward Davila has approved the schedule submitted by both parties.

Apple alleges that OpenAI gained access to confidential product and technology information through the company’s former employees and used this information to develop consumer electronics. Apple claims that this gave OpenAI an unfair competitive advantage.

According to the court schedule, the process will begin with electronic discovery on November 2, 2026. The main phase for document production and evidence gathering is expected to be completed by February 5, 2027. A status conference will be held on March 11, while the submission of expert reports will continue until the end of April.

The parties’ lead attorneys are scheduled to meet on June 1, 2027, to discuss the possibility of a settlement. However, holding such a meeting does not necessarily mean that an agreement will be reached.

Following the completion of pretrial preparations, the main hearings are expected to begin on July 19, 2027. The outcome of the case could affect the ongoing dispute between Apple and OpenAI over the protection of confidential information and competition in the technology sector.
