Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan: a model of unshakable friendship in hard times and good times
The meeting of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Karabakh on November 8, 2026 is no ordinary diplomatic event. It is another vivid expression of the mutual trust between the two leaders, the strategic unity of the two states, and the unbreakable friendship of the two brotherly peoples.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Azerbaijan on the sixth anniversary of Victory Day, and Ilham Aliyev’s personal welcome of him at Fuzuli International Airport, carry deep meaning.
This scene shows once again that Azerbaijan–Türkiye brotherhood does not consist only of official documents and diplomatic relations. Its roots lie in history, loyalty, mutual respect, and trust tested in the hardest of days.
The historical and moral message of today’s meeting
The world is changing. Political interests, international relations, and the regional situation are constantly evolving. At times various opinions are voiced, and different assumptions are put forward about relations.
But one truth must not be forgotten:
The brotherhood formed between Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is not the result of a single day, a single meeting, or a temporary political interest.
This relationship has grown stronger through years of mutual trust, joint struggle, and difficult trials.
That is precisely why today’s meeting carries special moral significance.
The strongest message of this meeting is this: any attempt to damage the friendship between Azerbaijan and Türkiye will face a solid foundation that draws strength from the shared history and unity of our peoples.
Because the fate of this brotherhood depends not on rumors, but on loyalty.
True brotherhood is recognized in hard times
The value of friendship is not known only in good times.
The political and moral support Türkiye gave Azerbaijan during the Patriotic War of 2020 left an indelible mark in our people’s memory.
Azerbaijan’s historic Victory was also met in Türkiye with great joy and pride.
During the devastating earthquake in Türkiye in 2023, the Azerbaijani people and state stood by their brotherly country.
Our rescuers, doctors, and volunteers rushed to help Türkiye.
These events proved once again that true brotherhood means sharing joy, bearing sorrow together, and never leaving one another alone in difficult days.
Unshakable trust stretching from Shusha to today
The Declaration on Allied Relations signed in Shusha on June 15, 2021 became an important milestone in the history of Azerbaijan–Türkiye relations.
This document strengthened the friendship between the two countries to the level of a strategic alliance.
The leaders’ meeting once again in Karabakh today, on November 8, 2026, demonstrates the continuity of that political will.
Karabakh has become a symbol that unites both the historical memory of this brotherhood and its hopes for the future.
No one can come between two brothers
From time to time, states may have differing approaches to various issues. This is a natural feature of international relations.
But true alliance does not mean thinking alike on every issue; it is the ability to find a way forward together while preserving mutual respect and trust.
This is one of the qualities that make the relationship between Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan valuable.
It is not easy to sow discord between two brothers who support each other, or to shake a friendship rooted in the hearts of peoples.
This brotherhood is not limited to the personal relationship of two leaders.
Behind it stand the love of the Azerbaijani and Turkish peoples, their shared culture, history, and faith in the future.
The bridge of trust built by the leaders is made even stronger by the brotherhood of the peoples.
