Stockholm, The Nobel Committee for Literature of the Swedish Academy has announced the laureate of the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature. The prize has been awarded to Canadian writer Anne Carson.
According to the Committee, Carson received the prize “for her bold and inventive works that create new forms for contemporary literature in a playful dialogue with the classical tradition.”
The Committee stressed that throughout her career the writer has combined writing poetry with translation and teaching at various universities. The statement says that almost all of her literary work is built on the intersection between the philologist’s obsession with words and the poet’s search for new meaning. The Committee also noted that Carson has chosen the etymology of words as the starting point for all of her works.
