Investments in the clean hydrogen sector have reached $130 billion!
Hydrogen technologies such as electrolyzers and fuel cells are expected to play an important role in integrating renewable energy into the electricity system.

As of September, global investment in the clean hydrogen sector has reached $130 billion. According to the Global Hydrogen Compass 2026 report, more than 570 projects are underway in the sector, with around 90% already under construction or operational. The total committed production capacity across these projects has reached 6.9 million tonnes per year. More than 60% of investments are linked to energy security, economic growth and decarbonization goals.
Hydrogen is playing an increasingly strategic role in the energy transition. Clean hydrogen production can help countries reduce their dependence on energy and raw material imports, diversify supply sources and strengthen the resilience of energy systems. Currently, around 34% of global electricity is generated from renewable sources. Hydrogen technologies such as electrolyzers and fuel cells are expected to play an important role in integrating renewable energy into electricity systems.
