New-Technology Nuclear Reactors to Be Built in the US!
This decision marks an important milestone in the company’s development of next-generation nuclear energy technology.

US nuclear energy startup Kairos Power has received approval from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to build two test reactors in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The decision marks an important milestone in the company’s development of next-generation nuclear energy technology. The new reactors will be based on technology designed to operate at high temperatures and use fluoride salts for cooling. The facilities will be smaller versions of the reactors Kairos Power plans to build in the future to provide nuclear power to Google’s data centers.
Company spokesperson Ashley Lewis said that although the reactors are primarily intended to test the technology, Kairos plans to connect them to the power grid. The company’s commercial project envisions two reactors with a combined capacity of 150 megawatts.
