Canada is seeking new opportunities to sell nuclear energy technology and liquefied natural gas to Poland. The two countries are holding talks on the construction of a new nuclear reactor in Poland. The initiative is linked to Canada’s efforts to reduce its dependence on the United States for exports. Canada is competing with the United States and France to build Poland’s second nuclear power plant. However, Poland has already selected the US companies Westinghouse Electric and Bechtel to build its first nuclear facility.
Poland is seeking to reduce its dependence on coal and increase the share of nuclear energy in its electricity mix. Canada is offering support for uranium supplies and project financing. Canadian Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu said the talks were progressing positively. He also said Canada could supply LNG to Poland through terminals on the Baltic Sea. Sidhu led a delegation of more than 200 Canadian companies. According to him, tariff tensions with the US could create new business opportunities for Canadian companies.
