Natural gas prices in Europe have fallen by up to 3.7%, approaching their lowest level in nearly three weeks. Despite this, Europe’s gas reserves remain significantly below the average levels of previous years.
Currently, European gas storage facilities are about 70% full, compared with a seasonal average of 86% for this period. This situation is increasing concerns about gas supplies as winter approaches and is contributing to price volatility.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said that talks between US and Iranian representatives in New York had been very productive. If a diplomatic agreement is reached between the US and Iran and energy flows from the Middle East stabilize, this could ease gas supply pressures in Europe. Otherwise, Europe may face stronger competition for LNG, potentially pushing gas prices higher as the winter months approach. The price of Dutch gas, one of Europe’s key gas benchmarks, has currently fallen 1% to €72.59/MWh.
