The possibilities of implementing a new large-scale project in Azerbaijan's metallurgical industry are being considered. The establishment of a new primary aluminum enterprise with an annual production capacity of approximately 200,000 tons by the private sector is planned within the country.
These provisions are reflected in the "State Program for the Development of the Mining Industry (Metal Ores) and Metallurgy in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2027–2030." According to the State Program, in the coming years, the feasibility of the project and potential investors will be identified, negotiations will be held with major foreign and local companies, and an effective investment model will be formed.
One of the important points noted in the Program is that the document does not guarantee in advance that the plant will definitely be built. First and foremost, the economic and investment feasibility and profitability of the project (Feasibility Study) will be comprehensively evaluated. Only upon the conclusion of these studies will a final decision regarding the establishment of the new enterprise be made and the selection of the investor formalized.
According to experts, an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons can significantly increase the export potential of Azerbaijan's non-oil sector, particularly heavy industry. The country's favorable geographical location, logistic capabilities, and internal energy resources will be key factors ensuring the future competitiveness of this industrial giant in the global market, especially in Europe and neighboring regions.
