The 4th meeting of the High-Level Energy Dialogue between Azerbaijan and the European Union was held in Brussels. It was chaired by Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and the EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen.
The parties stressed that energy cooperation is of strategic importance to both sides. Around half of Azerbaijan's gas exports go to Europe. This year, gas deliveries to Germany and Austria began for the first time, bringing the number of EU countries receiving Azerbaijani gas to 10.
Projects to increase gas production include Shah Deniz Compression, the non-associated gas of ACG, and the full-scale development of the Absheron field. The initial phase of expanding the capacity of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has been implemented. About 80 percent of Azerbaijan's crude oil exports also go to the European market.
Renewable energy was also discussed at the meeting. Azerbaijan has offshore wind potential in the Caspian Sea and solar potential on land. The possibilities of delivering this energy to Europe through the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor were reviewed. The importance of granting the project Project of Mutual Interest (PMI) status was noted.
The energy dialogue between Azerbaijan and the EU has been held since 2022.
