Chinese car brands are increasing their market share in Europe!

Chinese automakers are strengthening their position in the European market. In August, Chinese brands such as BYD accounted for around 12% of new car sales in Europe. Growing interest in hybrid vehicles has played an important role in this increase. Some European consumers remain cautious about switching fully to electric vehicles. Concerns about charging infrastructure, driving range and vehicle prices are boosting demand for hybrids. Since hybrid cars use both fuel and electricity, they are increasingly viewed as an intermediate option before switching to fully electric vehicles.

According to Dataforce, demand for battery-electric and hybrid vehicles rose by 27% in August. Chinese manufacturers accounted for a quarter of total hybrid sales and around one-third of plug-in hybrid sales. Chinese-made hybrids are currently not subject to the higher EU tariffs imposed on electric vehicles. However, additional tariffs on hybrid models could be considered in the future, potentially affecting the sales of Chinese brands in Europe.
