For the First Time, Generation Z’s IQ Level Is Lower Than That of the Previous Generation

According to research, the average cognitive performance of Generation Z is lower than that of the preceding Millennial generation. Declines have been observed across several indicators, including attention span, memory, reading skills, mathematical abilities, problem-solving skills, and overall IQ levels. According to neuroscientist Jared Cooney Horvath, who has studied the issue, this change is not accidental. The beginning of the decline coincides with the 2010s, when digital technologies began to be widely adopted in schools. Data from 80 different countries also reveal a similar pattern. Research shows that students spend an average of more than five hours a day in front of computers at school, but approximately two-thirds of this time is spent on activities that are not directly related to the learning process. This suggests that the well-known “Flynn Effect”, which describes the steady increase in IQ levels across generations, has stalled and has even begun to reverse in some regions.
