The efforts of artificial intelligence companies to acquire large datasets to improve their models have sparked a new commercial race and raised concerns over data security. Google and AI startup Micro1 have offered $10 million and $12.5 million, respectively, to acquire a data package owned by financially troubled Spirit Airlines.
The database for sale contains 97.5 million passenger records collected since 1992, 13.7 million active email addresses, loyalty program information, and data obtained from partner companies. The package also includes personal documents and emails belonging to more than 175,000 employees, as well as 1.5 million internal communications extracted from platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
