WhatsApp Will Stop Working on Some Older Smartphones!
As a result, some older smartphones will no longer be supported by WhatsApp.
Meta has updated the minimum system requirements for WhatsApp to work on Android and iOS devices. As a result, some older smartphones will no longer be supported by WhatsApp. Under the new rules, starting September 8, 2026, WhatsApp will only work on Android 6.0 and later versions. The previous minimum requirement was Android 5.0. Due to this change, WhatsApp will no longer be available on some older Android smartphones.
For iPhone users, the new requirement will take effect on November 30, 2026. From that date, WhatsApp will only support iOS 15.5 and later versions. Currently, most iPhone models that support iOS 15.1 can be updated to newer versions, so the majority of users are not expected to be affected by this change. Meta says older smartphones may not support new security updates and the technical features required for WhatsApp to function properly. For this reason, the company regularly updates its system requirements. Users are advised to keep their smartphone software up to date.
