The AI paradox in the United States
While 64% of respondents believe AI is bad for society, 36% view it positively.

According to The Hill , a survey conducted by Marquette University in the United States among 1,023 participants from September 2–9 showed that Americans’ attitudes toward artificial intelligence are largely negative. While 64% of respondents believe AI is bad for society, 36% view it positively. However, 69% of participants said they use AI technologies.
Amid the rapid development of AI in the United States, discussions continue over whether the technology’s development should be slowed down. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk have drawn attention to risks associated with AI development.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump’s administration supports an approach that encourages innovation in AI rather than imposing new restrictions. Trump has said that slowing development could negatively affect the United States’ technological competition with China. The survey results highlight a significant gap between public attitudes toward AI and its everyday use.
