U.S. President Donald Trump and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei share the view that China’s efforts to catch up with the United States in artificial intelligence should be prevented. Amodei has called for continued restrictions on the sale of advanced chips to China in order to preserve the U.S. lead in advanced AI technologies. He has urged policymakers to avoid selling advanced AI chips to China, tighten measures against chip smuggling, and prevent unauthorized data distillation.
The Trump administration maintains export restrictions on advanced chips and chip manufacturing equipment. At the same time, China continues to narrow the gap with the United States in artificial intelligence.
